The International Student Resource Center offers a variety of intercultural programs designed to promote cultural exchange and foster intercultural communication skills. To find out more about the following opportunities, please contact us.
The International Friendship Family Program
Through our Friendship Family Program, we match UCR international students with faculty,
administrators, staff and their families. These Friendship Families build relationships
and share cultures in unique, fulfilling ways. Friendship Families may be single individuals,
couples, partners or families with children. Activities might include sharing special
dinners, holiday celebrations, family outings or any other activities that would enrich
a student’s U.S. experience. Recruitment occurs in summer.
This is not a hosting program. Students do not live with their Friendship Families.
How It Works
1. Submit an application by the fall deadline.
2. We pair students with families.
3. Participants attend a short training and fun welcome reception.
4. Participants arrange to spend time together on their own, either off-campus or at UCR, as often as mutually desired.
The commitment is for the fall quarter, September through December. However, many Friendship Families choose to stay in touch for longer.

Global Connections Partner (GCP) Program
Through the Global Connections Partner Program, international students are paired with UCR Peer Advisors to meet, talk and do activities during the quarter, in order to facilitate international friendships and foster a mutual exchange of culture and language. UCR Peer Advisors selected to be Global Connection Partners receive intercultural training and play an important role in helping international students adjust to the U.S., Riverside and UCR.
If you are interested in being a part of the GCP Program, either as a UCR Peer Advisor or an international student, please complete the appropriate form below.
International Peer Advisors
IPAs assist the student body in a very significant way! It is a great volunteer opportunity to make new international friends, become a reliable resource for new international students, learn valuable team-building skills, and learn about other cultures and people. To apply to be an IPA, please complete the IPA Application.
The International Spouse & Partner Program
This is a free program created especially for spouses, partners and children of international students, although all are welcome. It is an opportunity for those of all nationalities to exchange friendships, cultures and ideas. You do not have to speak perfect English to attend. In fact, it is a great way to improve your English in an informal atmosphere! Participation in this program will give you a chance to make many new friends, discover new places in Riverside and experience various cultures. Women with children are encouraged to bring them along, and anyone is welcome to invite a friend!
Examples of our activities include: a picnic at the UCR Botanic Gardens, personalized card making on Mother's Day, and presentations of dances and traditions from women of different cultures.
