Freshmen Students

International Student Orientation

Our International Student Orientation is MANDATORY for all students in F-1 and J-1 status. You must attend the full orientation (do not arrive late or leave early). If you have a different visa (E, H, L, etc.) you are encouraged, but not required, to attend.

You will learn about:

  • UCR services and student organizations
  • Maintaining your immigration status
  • Health and safety procedures
  • General class registration procedures
  • Intercultural adjustment
  • Your fellow international students and our international peer advisors (IPAs)

Fees/Parking

International Student Orientation is at the ISRC during the winter and spring. Please check your welcome email for specific location, as it is subject to change.

Parking is free in the parking structure at the back of the lot in University Village. You can also park in the main University Village parking lot in front of the movie theater, in which case you may be required to take a ticket from the gate. If this happens, please bring the ticket in with you so we can validate it. Sometimes no ticket is required. Please note that we can only validate your ticket for 2 hours of time, and any time after that would be required for you to pay.

Document Check-in is MANDATORY for all international students .

Please bring originals of the following with you to orientation:

     Required: The International Student Personal Record Form.
     Required: I-94 arrival record (Your I-94 arrival record may be found here, please do not print it out until AFTER your arrival.)
     Required: Entry visa stamp.
     Required: Passport.
     Required: Page 1 & 3 of UCR I-20/DS-2019.*
     Required: Page 1 & 3 of any previous I-20s/DS-2019s.* (if you’ve transferred your record in active status)
     If applicable: Copy of I-797 approval notice for change of status in the U.S.

AWPE and MAE: The Analytical Writing Placement Examination (AWPE) and Mathematical Analytical Exam (MAE) are placement exams for incoming students. Please contact your academic advisor to determine if you need to take these tests.
