  Employment

Dependents of F-1 visa holders (F-2s) are not permitted to work.

Dependents of J-1 (Exchange Visitor) visa holders may be granted employment permission by the Unites States Citizenship and Immigration Services (UCIS) when the earnings of the employment will be used for the support of the dependent spouse and children - not for the support of the principal Exchange Visitor.  There is a special application procedure to request employment permission.  The staff of International Education Center will assist you with the application.

 Health Matters
As health care can be very expensive in the United States, all family members need to be covered by health insurance. You may be able to add your dependent family members to your insurance policy at UCR for an additional fee. Please consult with the Health Insurance Office on campus for details. You may also purchase separate insurance plans for your dependents. Brochures for different insurance plans are available in the International Education Center. You and your family members should always be covered by insurance while in the United States.
